Why a CD-ROM?

CD-ROM is a fantastic way of capturing the imagination of young people. Computer based packages are a growing resource and the broad availability of multimedia systems allows us to create interactive games and activities with sound, video and animation.

About this CD-ROM

The Driving Your Life CD aims to help young people gain essential skills for their future. It covers the basic topics of Self-Awareness, Decision Making, Assertiveness, Career Pathways, Job Search & Telematics. For young people the CD will aid understanding and raise awareness of these topics and for facilitators the CD can be a sparking point of ideas for further exploration with groups and individuals. It is not meant as a replacement to the teaching of these issues, but can be used as a starting point and the resources will certainly provide you with additional material.

The CD-ROM uses the metaphor of driving as you move around a virtual ringroad; stopping at the islands of Self Awareness, Decision Making, Assertiveness, Career Pathways, Job Search and Telematics.

All of the activities are backed up with text based information with 'Things to Think About' and 'Things to Do' which can be printed out and used by Tutors and students. You are also able to interview 6 mentors asking a variety of questions, such as 'What is a Mentor?' and 'How long are the sessions?'

On the journey you are taken around the islands in a sequence, collecting letters as you go to spell a core skills word, enter those letters at the end and get access to the game, where you can play and send your scores to the Internet.

The CD-ROM was developed by Trilby Multimedia with the students and staff from the Birmingham Youthstart 2000 courses.
